Dmitrii Rogovtsov
Backend engineer — C++, Python, Linux. I take things from problem to shipped.
Over twenty years in IT, and not all of it writing code: sysadmin, networks, DNS and mail, VPNs, telephony. Several years of frontend as well, before I settled on the other end of the wire. These days it is backend, in C++ and Python — and before them, whatever the system happened to be written in. The language has rarely been the hard part.
That mix is the useful part: when something breaks it is usually not where everyone is looking. Legacy systems, code nobody wants to touch, things that have to keep running while being taken apart — that is the work I am good at, and I am normally useful within the first week.
What I like most is owning a thing end to end: deciding what it should do, cutting what it should not, and getting it in front of people. The extension below went from an annoyance of mine to a published product in two days.
Work
Unsubby
A Chrome extension that unsubscribes from YouTube channels in bulk. YouTube only lets you do it one at a time, with a confirmation on each. Built on YouTube's internal API with a fallback to driving the real UI, so a changed endpoint makes it slower rather than broken. No servers, no analytics, MIT licensed.
